In a press release, DeMarco clues us in on the "This Old Dog"s music video's significance: "A devoted dog discovers the meaning of its own existence through the lives of the humans it teaches to laugh and love. Being alive is really crazy, and the world is a really strange place." I've been looking at things under a more mature microscope. Speaking about the process behind recording the new record, DeMarco told NME: "I think it's a little more personal, about my family and the way my life is going right now.
His lo-fi sound has evolved in a way that reflects his mastering of what he knows best - a lot of reverb, a lot of guitar recorded via analog, a lot of lovelorn wistfulness for what once was and may never be again. "This Old Dog" will be his fourth full-length LP, following 2014's "Salad Days" that catapulted him into his own current brand of indie stardorm. In a way, DeMarco is at an interesting turning point in his career. The video, directed by DeMarco himself, follows several people wearing dog masks around Los Angeles. It feels like a slowed-down, stripped version of his project Makeout Videotape, one that DeMarco aficionados will find themselves familiar with.
"This Old Dog" is the first single as well as title track of DeMarco's upcoming record, due out May 5 via Captured Tracks.
Folks, the moment you've long been waiting for: new Mac DeMarco tunes are on the way.
